Spring Is In The Air

We have received many inquiries about spring classes. The brochure is at the printer's now, and as soon as you receive it in the mail you can register. You can preview the classes right now by clicking on the Classes link to the left. For the time being, all registrations are closed, but that will change as soon as you get your brochure in the mail. Online registration is best because you get instant confirmation of your classes, you save a stamp, and you help us with our workload. Thank you to all of you who have done so in the past.

Mayoral Candidate Forum

University Center and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) will host a Mayoral Candidate Forum on Thursday, December 3 at University Center. The forum will be held in Avera Hall at University Center North beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Candidates for Mayor of the City of Sioux Falls will participate in a moderated question and answer session. The forum is designed to give the public an opportunity to hear from the candidates regarding their positions on issues important to our community. The public is invited to submit questions for the candidates in advance by emailing them to mayorforum@sduniversitycenter.org.

All candidates for Mayor have been invited to participate in the discussion. Participants include Vernon Brown, Pat Costello, Mike Huether, Bill Peterson, and Kermit Staggers.

The event will be moderated by Jack Marsh, Executive Director of the Freedom Forum's Al Neuharth Media Center.

The Mayoral Candidate Forum is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. University Center North is located just west of the junction of I-29 and 60^th Street North, on Career Avenue.

Stavig Letters a Success

Eighty people attended the OLLI presentation of The Stavig Letters on Friday, October 23. We apologize for the construction situation and hope that all of you got the word about the best route to take.

Members praised the performance as they left the auditorium, and also praised the venue, Avera Hall at University Center North. Our thanks to University Center for this great facility. And thanks also to the South Dakota Humanities Council for providing such interesting lectures.

One-Time Offer for First Time Members: 2 Full Year Memberships for $200 Program

From now through September 30, 2009, we are offering a special deal for first-time OLLI members. If you and another first-time member sign up together, each of you will pay only $100 for a Full Year membership. (That’s a whole year’s worth of classes for only $100.) Instead of paying $260 for the two of you, you will pay $100 each for a total of $200. This combined savings of $60 works with spouses or friends. The only requirements are:

Two of you must sign up together
Both of you must be first-time members
You must apply for the Full Member option
You must do so by September 30
We request that you send your payments together, but we will accept separate payments.
Be sure to list your “buddy” on the membership form.

The Each One Reach One program rewards you for recruiting new members, This, in addition to a special mailing of our spring class brochure, has resulted in 70 new OLLI members. For each referral made, a Downtown Sioux Falls gift card was awarded. So far we have distributed a total of 29 gift cards.
